To change the batteries in a smoke detector, you can try these steps:

  1. 1. Remove the cover

Most smoke detectors can be opened by twisting them, but some may have a plastic lock that requires a screwdriver, or you may need to pop it open with your fingers.

  • 2. Replace the battery

Take out the old battery and put in the new one, making sure the positive and negative connections match the labels in the smoke detector.

  • 3. Test the smoke alarm

Press the test button for a few seconds to make sure the smoke alarm is working.

Here are some additional tips:

  • If your smoke detector has two batteries, make sure to replace both at the same time.
  • If the battery door slides open, make sure it’s fully open before removing and installing the new batteries.
  • If the smoke detector is still beeping after you’ve changed the battery, it might be expired. Smoke detectors have an expiration date and the sensitive equipment inside can only work reliably for a certain amount of time.

You should check and test your smoke detectors often to ensure they are working properly.
